The Cap de Creus Natural Park, the first protected maritime-terrestrial space in Catalonia, stands out for its geological configuration of schists and pegmatites dating back 450 million years.
Characterized by an abrupt relief sculpted by the tramuntana wind and salinity, with vegetation adapted to the wind.
Protects underwater depths with vertical walls, seagrass meadows, and exceptional biodiversity for diving.
Terrestrial Ecosystem: Presence of unique endemic species such as Seseli farrenyi and Limonium geronense. The dominant vegetation is Mediterranean scrubland (lentisk, heather, and rockrose).
Maritime Ecosystem: Highlights include extensive Posidonia oceanica meadows and algae forests of the genus Cystoseira.
Birds and Reptiles: Habitat for the Bonelli's eagle, the peregrine falcon, and the Mediterranean turtle.
Marine Life: Stable populations of grouper, red coral, and gorgonians. It is a frequent passage area for cetaceans such as the bottlenose dolphin and the fin whale.
